Ugh. Has it really been two weeks since I posted anything? Honestly, I’m still in a rut and I haven’t had any desire to sew or do anything remotely productive. That being said, I’ve been slowing working on a pair of 18th century stays and I recently made myself a new skirt to wear once the weather cools down.
At Costume College I was very good and limited my purchases to only two new patterns from Decades of Style. My favorite pattern by far was this adorable 1950s PB & J skirt. The center panel is cut on the straight of grain, while the side panels are on the bias, and I knew I had to use a plaid to highlight the neat patterning.
I used lightweight grey wool for the skirt, and added some fun vintage construction techniques, like bright blue seam tape and a hand-picked zipper. The only change I made to the pattern was to shorten it by about 4 inches. The mid-calf length is period, but rather unflattering on me so I brought more in line with my modern style, raising it to just below the knee.
